With Adam working away, weekends are always something for us to look forward to. A couple of weeks ago we’d arranged to go back to one of our favourite restaurants in Middlesbrough for an evening of cocktails, Caribbean food and good music. I’ve talked about Turtle Bay* a few times on my blog already, from when the Caribbean restaurant first opened in Middlesbrough to their tempting 2 for 1 cocktails offer but they’ve recently launched a new menu to encourage social eating – Caribbean style of course!
Sometimes a little staycation is all you need to recharge your batteries and be grateful for the little things in life. 28th June marked the family business’ 25th anniversary which is a huge accomplishment, so to celebrate, my mam and dad booked a weekend away to the Lake District where Adam and I decided to go down and join them for a night. Whilst they stayed in the beautiful Burnside Hotel and Spa in Bowness-on-Windermere, Adam and I stayed on my mam and dad’s boat on the marina nearby (which was hot and sweaty to say the least!). To celebrate the burger in all its glory ahead of National Burger Day on Thursday 23rd August, TripAdvisor announced a list of their top burger restaurants in the UK. Missing out on first place by the skin of their teeth was Burgsy’s Burger House in Whitby. Burgsy’s has been a restaurant on mine and Adam’s restaurant bucket list for a while now and after hearing it was voted the second best burger in the UK by TripAdvisor earlier last week, we knew we had to make it a priority to pay them a visit and see if it lived up to the hype. At the beginning of July we saw the opening weekend of something new and extremely exciting – Orange Pip Kitchen. Setting up shop inside the newly-refurbished Middlesbrough Town Hall, Orange Pip Kitchen is the brainchild of commercial events manager for the Town Hall, Keren Pearson, and the people behind the Orange Pip Market. To celebrate the £7.7 million makeover of Middlesbrough Town Hall*, I’m excited to announce an amazing event coming to Centre Square on Sunday 1st July – Cake Fest Middlesbrough! When the email landed into my inbox I knew it was something I had to roll up my sleeves for and get involved in. Combining two of my favourite things – eating cake and bigging up my hometown of Middlesbrough – how could I not be at the forefront of it?! I’ve always had an inner baker in me and although I’ve never baked a larger than normal cake before, nor have I decorated one with such detail, I’ve been looking forward to stepping up to the challenge.
