Yesterday Adam and I spent the morning how we spend most Saturday mornings – we got up early and went down to DW Fitness First for a session in the gym. Located at Middlesbrough Leisure Park, it’s just a short 10 minute drive from home and easily accessible from the A66. As we begin our time off over the holidays we decided to make the most of the time we have off together and do some fun things. So after we’d showered in the gym, we went to Cineworld* to book tickets for the new Mary Poppins film, Mary Poppins Returns, in 4DX for later that afternoon.
Parking at Middlesbrough Leisure Centre
There are plenty of parking spaces so getting parked is never a problem (unless Middlesbrough are playing at home!). The blue parking spaces mean you can park for free for up to 4 hours when using the leisure park, if you park in the white spaces you’ll have to pay at the machine unless it’s a Saturday or Sunday or after 6pm on a week night, in which case it’s free!
My first 4DX experience at Cineworld Middlesbrough
Mary Poppins Returns was released was on Friday, the perfect feel-good family film for the Christmas holidays. Mary Poppins was a favourite childhood film of mine so when I saw Cineworld were showing it in 4DX it seemed like a great excuse to go to the cinema and see what 4DX is all about.
What is 4DX?
With 11 screens housing comfortable stadium style seating and state of the art speaker systems, the latest technology to arrive at Cineworld is the 4DX screen which offers viewers a brilliant interactive cinematic experience. Together with extremely comfortable motion seats and special effects such as wind, water, fog, scents and bubbles, 4DX helps to bring the film to life and make the cinema experience more exciting for the whole family.
Mary Poppins Returns
Staying true to the first film, Mary Poppins Returns is full of singing, dancing and heartfelt moments. Emily Blunt does a brilliant job of playing Mary Poppins. Flicking from an ordinary life in London to imaginative cartoon scenes which matched the original, the film was great fun to watch with the special 4D effects. The bathtub scene was my favourite for the effects, bringing us bubbles, splashes of water, a whiff of fragrance and a rocky rollacoaster in our seats.
Heating things up in Nandos
After the film we headed to Nandos* for our tea. Service in here was fast and friendly, getting us served quickly without compromising the quality of food. I ordered the sunset burger with chips, the burger was made up of tasty chicken thighs, melted cheddar cheese, spinach and the most amazing sweet yet spicy red pepper chutney.
Adam ordered the fino pitta which was a combination of chicken thighs, grilled halloumi, caramelised red onion and garlic mayonnaise tucked into a toasted pitta with peri salted chips and supergrain on the side. Getting in the Christmas spirit, Nandos have a limited edition peri-peri chicken gravy which we just had to try. For £1.25 you get a jug of flavoursome gravy with a slight kick – perfect for smothering your chips with and dipping your burger in.
Middlesbrough Leisure Park is a great place for the whole family this festive season, offering a variety of exciting new films to watch and many eateries available to grab a bite to eat at including Nandos, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Subway. Head over to the Middlesbrough Leisure Park Facebook page where they will be running a variety of competitions throughout December!
