Last Christmas my mam treated my dad and I to an epic trip to London. Not only did we get to spend the weekend in the capital, but we also got to stay on a super yacht! Moored at the Docklands of Royal Victoria Dock, the Sunborn London is the UK’s only luxury super yacht hotel.
My dad loves boats and takes a trip to London for the boat show each year which takes place at the Excel London which is conveniently located directly opposite the Sunborn hotel, a mere two minute walk away. The Canning Town tube station is a small walk away too, making travelling around the city really easy. The nearby cable car ride to Greenwich Peninsula puts many attractions in easy reach including London’s only planetarium, the national maritime museum and Queen’s house, a former royal residence.
Approaching the Sunborn London, I was blown away by the size of the yacht hotel. Upon entering we entered a lift that took us up to the reception area which was a great first impression. Unlike the cruise ships I’ve stayed on, this ship had a luxury winding staircase, extravagant chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and gold accents throughout the yacht. The place was airy, fresh and completely immaculate.
As there was three of us, we stayed in the yacht executive family room which was a generous size and rivalled most hotels on land. Due to the large size of the yacht hotel, you would never know you were on-board a ship as it was incredibly still during our visit in January, there was no rocking whatsoever.
Our room was fully equipt with everything we needed including tea and coffee making facilities, still and sparkling water and a tablet to browse the internet on. We were even provided with a generous selection of Molten Brown toiletries which smelt amazing and really added to the luxury feel of our stay.
Our room was extremely spacious, again, bigger than most other hotel rooms. My mam and dad had a king sized bed to share and I was provided with a sofa that converted into a generously sized double bed. With generous wardrobe space and places to put our luggage, long mirrors to get ready in front of and a large TV, we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had a comfortable nights sleep, away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city of London.
On board the yacht hotel is a bar and restaurant serving up a selection of specially crafted cocktails and exquisite food including a sea-themed afternoon tea complete with cakes, scones and sandwiches. Prices for the traditional afternoon tea start from £30 per person.
Despite not spending much time in the yacht hotel as we were busy making the most of our time in London, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Sunborn London and it was the perfect experience for a special occasion. There is also a Sunborn yacht hotel in Gibraltar which would be an amazing place to visit in the future!
