Fish & Chips at the Seaview Restaurant | Saltburn, North Yorkshire

Seaview restaurant saltburn view

Sometimes the best places to visit are right on your doorstep. With the weather being as unpredictable as ever, it’s been nice to make the most of those rare warm and sunny days. One evening after a long slog in the gym, me and Adam jumped in the car and decided to get some chips for tea (we worked for it!). Whilst Redcar beach is a little closer, I much prefer Saltburn it seems like a real holiday destination despite it being just 15 minutes down the road.

Still in our gym gear, we parked at the top and walked down the steps to the promenade. It was a warm evening, especially considering we were by the sea. It was around 7pm when we arrived and it was much quieter than it would be even on an overcast weekend. We decided to sit upstairs on the outdoor terrace of the Seaview Restaurant where the views of the seafront were incredible!

Large cod, chips and gravy

Unfortunately we had to wait a little while before we were given a menu to look at which in turn slowed down the time it took for our food to come (at this point we were already very hungry!). Whilst we waited for our food to arrive we ordered some bread and butter to keep our hunger at bay until our main meal arrived. For my main I ordered battered sausage and chips and Adam ordered a large cod and chips with more bread and butter and a gravy boat to share.

Battered sausage and chips

I was impressed with the portion I received as I wasn’t expecting to get two sausages and such a full plate of chips. My portion seemed larger than Adam’s despite his being more expensive but I guess that was down to the quality of the cod he received. Our meals really hit our hunger spot, I especially enjoyed the gravy that was really salty and full of taste. As far as traditional seaside grub goes it was pretty average, but with the perfect location and stunning views from our table, I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit.

After our food we went for a stroll along the pier where we looked at the mystery knitters art work and watched some men do a spot of fishing. We were even lucky enough to spot a seal in the water!

Saltburn always reminds me of the annual trip me, my mam and nana used make in the school holidays when the summer seemed to last forever! It’s the perfect place for a stroll around the shops, eat fish and chips followed by a 99, have fun in the amusements and finish the day with a walk along the pier with the most picturesque backdrop.
