My favourite place for a couple of cool cocktails and a catch up with my friends has got to be Macy Browns in Middlesbrough. The vibe is amazing, playing funky old school music with a mix of soul and Motown, I just can’t get enough of the laidback vibe it brings to the town centre. Last Wednesday I went along with three of my friends for a cocktail masterclass to celebrate one of the girl’s birthdays. Today I’m sharing our experience with you and how you can grab this experience for less than a tenner!
We purchased our tickets for the masterclass through Groupon as they had a really good deal on where it works out as less than £10 for a group of two or four people. This ticket entitled us to three cocktails each which we would take turns to make in our groups (two people at a time), we were also given some nibbles such as crisps and olives to see us through the hour and a half masterclass. We were able to select three cocktails between the four of us from the classic menu, the cocktails are normally £5.95 each so as you can see you get more for the money you paid.
We started by making the birthday girl’s faovurite drink (also mine!) – a Passionfruit Martini followed by a classic Cosmo. All of the cocktails were really nice but the real favourite was a Raspoutin which consisted of Strawberry Puree, Raspberry Puree, Sweet and Sour, Lime Juice, Elderflower Cordial, White Rum. Panos was our teacher for the evening and he was fab! He taught us how to use all of the popular cocktail gadgets and how to garnish our cocktails so they looked pretty and professional. We had a right giggle and felt like we had plenty of time to chat in between cocktails without feeling rushed.
After the class we moved away from the bar and went over to a table to enjoy a few more cocktails whilst another group of people joined for the masterclass. For a Wednesday night there was a nice amount of people enjoying a few mid-week drinks and the music was great as always. We really enjoyed our night at Macy Browns and the cocktails were amazing! The Amaretto Frost is one to try if you ever get the chance to pop in for a drink!
