Last month me and my mam attended the Barker and Stonehouse open day at Teesside Park, Stockton where Great British Bake Off judge and award-winning writer, Mary Berry, graced us with her presence. I’d been looking forward to the opening of the new flag-ship store for a while now and Mary Berry’s guest appearance was the icing on the cake (hehe, how could I resist?).
After briefly queuing outside upon arrival, we entered the store to find baking guru, Mary Berry, getting interviewed by the local press. Before this, she cut a cake to celebrate the store opening and was due to be answering questions from her fans in a questions and answers session later in the day. The 80 year old star looked youthful and ready for spring in her beautiful floral blazer (I couldn’t believe how amazing this lady looked for her age!).
As we wandered around the new store which cost a whopping £4.5m to build and kit out, I was in ore with how perfectly designed the building was – I loved the industrial theme which was present throughout the store. There were so many wooden pieces and lighting fixtures that I wanted for my house!
You could tell that a lot of thought went into the design of the state of the art building. There were plenty of things that caught my eye during our visit including the pillar made from books, the ‘living wall’ and a gorgeous children’s box bed complete with folding hinged doors and a window (what I’d do to be a kid again!). Unfortunately, the photographs I took of these were blurry so I haven’t been able to use them.
In preparation for Mary Berry’s Q&A session, Barker and Stonehouse launched a competition on their social media accounts to gather some questions to ask Mary on day of the store opening – the best questions would win a signed copy of Berry’s new book, The Baking Bible and their questions would be answered by the woman herself on the big day. Lucky for me, I entered and WON!! I love a good competition and was over the moon when I found out, especially as I’m rediscovering my love for baking. You can catch Mary Berry answering my question in the video below…
Mary Berry is such a down to earth woman who has experienced a lot during her lifetime and she had so many funny stories to share with us during her Q&A session. I’m looking forward to heading back to the new Barker and Stonehouse store in the near future to try out their café and invest in some bold pieces of décor for my home.
What do you think of the new Barker and Stonehouse flag-ship store? Are you a fan of Mary Berry?
