As we approach the busiest time of the year for me with my birthday and Christmas celebrations coming up, I’ve been reminiscing on last year’s trips and excitement that accompanied the winter months. Last year I had the pleasure of visiting Winter Wonderland and attending the Royal Variety Performance in London, I got the ferry to Amsterdam and my final holiday of the year was a 4 day trip to Berlin. Looking back on my photos from Berlin there’s so much I still need to share with you all, I’ve simply not had the chance to! Today I’m talking about one of the highlights from my trip to Berlin and a must for any of you visiting the German city in the near future.
This was a place we’d heard about whilst planning our visit and it was somewhere we really wanted to go. When it came to finding it, we found ourselves racing against the clock in an attempt to get there before sunset, luckily we managed despite it being a little stressful!
The Monkey Bar located on the 10th floor of the 25hours Hotel Bikni Berlin hotel is a bar boasting incredible views over the city of Berlin. Serving up a great selection of innovative cocktails and a sophisticated snack menu, the Monkey Bar is the perfect place to unwind after a hectic day in the city.
Inside the bar it’s busy and the atmosphere is buzzing. During our visit their was a woman djing who was playing some great laidback beats perfect for a late afternoon. The Monkey Bar has low lit lighting with animal murals printed on the walls. The fascinating floor to ceiling windows down one side of the room brighten up the place and give you a full view of the surrounding areas including the monkey enclosure at Berlin Zoo! There are low tables with seating to match with steps covered in pillows to create a relaxed hub for guests.
Once we had ordered our cocktails we headed outside to take in the brilliant views and get ready for the impending sunset we’d been waiting for. The outside terrace is a great size with seats to cater for at 15-20 people. Each seat was accompanied with a fur rug and throw to keep you warm whilst you sit outside. We visited in November so the chill in the air was quite fierce. From the left of the terrace you can see Weihnachtsmarkt am Gedachtniskirche by Breitscheidtplatz public square which looks brilliant lit up on an evening. To the right there is a fantastic view of Zoo Berlin.
If you’re a sucker for a good view, the Monkey Bar is THE place for a toilet with a view. With floor to ceiling glass window, the end cubicle gives you another breathtaking view of the zoo. Unfortunately these toilets were out of use during our visit so we had to use an alternative on a different floor.
Service for our drinks was a little slow and the prices were higher than anywhere else we visited in Berlin. Our cocktails cost us around 12 euro each so we only got one each. Getting seated inside was a struggle which meant we had to eat elsewhere. We tried to visit a restaurant on the floor below but they were fully booked so it is worth booking ahead if you want to eat whilst you are there. However there are some lovely restaurants located nearby 25hours Hotel Bikni.
