Last week me and my friends decided to go for a swanky meal in Yarm to celebrate one of my friend’s birthdays. As it was a special occasion, we decided to try somewhere new to mark the occasion. Italian food is always a winner in my eyes as there is always plenty of variety so we headed to Cena in Yarm, a modern Italian restaurant on the popular high street.
Upon arrival at about 6pm on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was quiet with just a couple of tables occupied (this was good for us as we hadn’t booked a table in advance). We were lucky as it wasn’t long before the restaurant started to fill up with families, friends and couples.
The restaurant had a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you could sit down alone or with company and feel perfectly comfortable. The interior design and layout is cosy and has an authentic feel to it with lots of distressed wood and brightly coloured shabby chic furniture.
We started our night with some cocktails whilst we had a look through the food menu. We decided to share a starter between the three of us by ordering two plates of doughballs which were accompanied by a delicious garlic butter dip. The doughballs were freshly cooked and warm from the oven.
For my main course, I decided to go for a classic pepperoni pizza. My friends also opted for a pizza each – chicken and chorizo and the spicy deli. The pizzas were freshly made in an open oven on a stone which helped turn the crust beautifully crisp with a lovely, soft base. The pepperoni was really tasty and quite spicy which helped to add flavour to my main course. Topped with shavings of parmesan cheese and a generous sprinkling of rocket, the pizzas were wonderfully presented to match the quaint setting of the restaurant.
Overall, me and my friends really enjoyed our time at Cena in Yarm. Whilst the price of the food is a little higher than your average restaurant, the dining experience was great and worth the money. If you’re looking for a warm, quiet evening filled with fresh, quality food and a extensive choice of drinks, you will love Cena.
